Rosenshine's Principles of Instruction
At Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School, our teaching is underpinned by Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction, a research-based approach that supports high-quality learning for all pupils. These principles help teachers to structure lessons effectively - beginning with reviewing previous learning, presenting new material in small steps, and providing clear, guided instruction. Pupils are supported through modelling, scaffolding, and regular opportunities to practise and apply their knowledge. Frequent questioning and timely feedback help to identify gaps and secure understanding. This consistent approach across the school ensures that every child is given the tools to succeed, build confidence, and develop their long-term memory over time.
