Blog

There is a new blogging page on the school website. It is located in the Home Learning section. Here you will be able to use your personal username and password which I have sent to your adults via the Parents app to send messages. I will first have to approve and publish them for your classmates to see and then I will write back to you too. You can post pictures of your work also if you'd like to. This is a great way to keep in touch with everybody and let us know what you've been up to!

I look forward to hearing from you Year 2!

Come and See

We would have now been starting the Explore section of our new topic in school of Opportunities. I'd like you to think how life, whether at home or in school, is full of opportunities for self giving. Shortly before we finished school we read the story 'Dogger' in class. I'd like you to watch and listen to this again using the video below.

Now think about how Dave must have felt when he lost Dogger. We know that his sister Bella made the kind choice to swap her new big teddy which she had just won with the little girl in order to get Dogger back for Dave. This was an opportunity for Bella to show self giving and put the needs of others before her own.

I'd like you to now think of a time when you had to give up your own needs in order to help someone else. Think about how it made you feel and whether you would do it again. You could draw a picture showing what you did. You could even write a short paragraph explaining what your kind deed was if you like and post it on our new blog.

English

We would have been starting our new book Traction Man Is Here if we had been in school. This is a fabulous book and last Year's Year 2 class really enjoyed it so I wouldn't want you to miss out just because we are not in school at the moment.

Before I upload the story I'd like you to do a 'book talk' activity just like we have with our previous texts in class. Look at the front cover below and identify the title, author and illustrator. Then I'd like you to write a few sentences about your predictions about what may happen in the book. Remember to start your first sentence with 'I predict .............'

Maths

If were in school we would be starting to learn about fractions in Maths lessons. A fraction represents a part of a whole number. I'd like you to start by looking at the powerpoint below which explains how we can count in halves (1/2) and then try the worksheet which asks you to find a half of a whole number.

Geography

We should have been starting our new Geography topic of 'My World and Me' this half term. Below is a powerpoint which we would have watched in class to introduce this topic. Please read through this and then have a go at one of the tasks below.

Task A: Use the word bank to label the seven continents of the world. (worksheet 1a)

Task B: Use the word bank to label the seven continents and five oceans of the world. (worksheet 1b)

Skipping Challenge

How many skips can you do in 30 seconds?

You could post a picture or video of you doing the challenge on our new blog in the video centre.
