We have been accredited with the Thinking Schools Award. Our school strives to deliver effective strategies to support our pupils to learn. To do this we ensure all our pupils are ready to learn, we plan lessons to scaffold pupils' learning and develop their thinking through questioning and problem solving. Well done to all our staff and children!
Our Eco-Council have continued to contribute to improving the environment from litter picking, distributing dog poop bag dispensers and campaigning against fly tipping. They were delighted to receive the Eco Schools Green Flag Award with Distinction. Well done to our Eco-Council and school community.
Well done to all our staff and children who worked so hard this year to achieve the Well Being Award for Schools. We will continue to keep well being at the heart of our school to ensure all our children, families and staff are supported.
As part of their community outreach project, Jaguar & Land Rover sent a team to our school for two days to renovate areas of the school. They cleaned and repainted our bike shed, built a new fence in Early Years, painted and tidied up our planters, painted areas in school and created a new forest classroom - all in two days! I would like to say a huge thank you to Jaguar and Land Rover for all the hard work they have done for our schoo.
Over the summer we have renovated our Early Years provision. We have created a new collection point for our Nursery children also. We held a grand opening where we were joined by our Governors, Sefton's Early Years Team and The Liverpool Archdiocese. It was a wonderful event and our visitors were extremely impressed by the new calming and nurturing environment.
During this academic year, pupils and staff at Our Lady Star of the Sea, Seaforth, have
acted upon their ‘Catholic Social Teaching’ in supporting Mary’s Meals, helping to feed some
of the world’s poorest communities.
Back in the Autumn term, Anna Houghton, Supporter Engagement Officer for Mary’s Meals,
introduced herself and the work Mary’s Meals does. Since then the school has continued to
raise awareness and held events during the year to support such as; ‘World Porridge Day’,
‘Raise Some Dough cake sale’ and ‘Move For Meals.’ The school raised an incredible
£306.40 which means the school has fed 16 children with school meals for the next year!
Anna returned to Our Lady Star of the Sea and presented the school with the ‘Schools
Feeding Schools’ award and it is now a Mary’s Meals Ambassador School. Anna said: “It is
wonderful to return back to the school which is just a haven for the children, the school is
third to receive this award throughout the United Kingdom and first to receive this academic
year. Well done to all the children and staff.”
Mary’s Meals has worked to produce resources for the Religious Education Directory, to
further support schools and to be able to share the story of Mary's Meals as part of Catholic
Social Teaching. Our Lady Star of the Sea is proud to have worked with Mary’s Meals and
will continue to support the amazing work they do.
We have achievd the Platinum Games Award. Ally Watson said,
'This recognition is a testament to the dedication and sustained effort you have invested over the years to provide a broad, inclusive, and engaging programme of PE, sport, and physical activity for your pupils. Your commitment to ensuring every young person has access to meaningful and varied opportunities is clear, and the impact of your work is evident.
The school’s consistent engagement with the School Games and your deep understanding of the wider benefits of PE and sport are commendable. Your inclusive approach and passion for developing physical education make this award thoroughly well-deserved.
Congratulations to all at Our Lady Star of the Sea on this well-deserved success!'
Well done to all our staff this year who have worked extremely hard to develop our practice and understanding of how attachment and trauma can impact on children's well being and learning. I am pleased to say that we have acheived the Bronze Award. Well done, Team Star!
We are delighted that we have been shortlisted for an Educate Award for 'Outstanding Commitment to the Environment.' Well done to all the staff and children who support our community and strive to improve our local environment.
