SMSC & British Values

SMSC
Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development is at the heart of the catholic ethos of our school and is embedded into our broad and humanity rich curriculum.
British Values

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in our school to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.

The British values, as defined by the government are:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

These British Values are promoted throughout the curriculum, across the whole school. They are also seen in the school ethos, policies, assemblies, special events and cultural celebrations

Picture News
We use Picture News as a great teaching tool to share news and topics for discussion with our children. In addition to the discussions there is a weekly question linked to British Values.
