Child Protection and Safeguarding

The safety and welfare of our pupils is of the utmost importance to us at school. We take rigorous steps to ensure that children stay safe and do not come to any harm.  We work closely with parents/carers and a range of professional external agencies in order to secure this.

If you have any concerns, no matter how small they may seem, about the safety or welfare of any child, please contact your child's Class Teacher, the school's Designated Lead for Child Protection and Safeguarding , Mrs C. Roberts - Headteacher or in her absence Mrs S Edey & Ms A Richardson, Assistant Headteachers.

Prevent Duty Guidance for Schools and Child Care Provider Settings

The Prevent Duty Guidance (under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015) which places a duty on schools.and child care providers, to "have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism".  This legal duty came in to force on 1st July 2015.

Operation Encompass

Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School is proud to be part of the national Operation Encompass partnership.

Operation Encompass is a national initiative that brings together the police and schools to provide timely support to children who may have experienced, or been affected by, domestic abuse.

As part of this partnership, our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Deputy DSL, has undertaken specialist training to act as our school's Operation Encompass Key Adult.

Where the police attend a domestic abuse incident involving a child or young person at their home, the police will notify the school's Key Adult before the start of the next school day, where appropriate. This enables school staff to be aware that a child may need additional care, understanding and support when they arrive at school.

Any information received through Operation Encompass is treated with strict confidentiality and handled in accordance with our safeguarding procedures. The information is used to ensure that children receive appropriate and timely pastoral support and that their wellbeing and safety remain at the heart of our response.

Our aim is to provide a safe, caring and supportive environment where every child feels listened to, valued and protected.
