  • Star Community Garden Project

Wed 09 Oct 2019 Mrs Jenkins

Work has started on Phase 2 of our Community Garden Project!

We are so excited about our new project to create a community garden.

The overgrown brambles and bushes have been cleared from the area by Lime Grove entrance. We have had  flags put down for the foundation for our new 13 ft x 18 ft greenhouse. This should be arriving around the beginning of November.

The remaining area will be turfed and planted with some fruit trees.

With some community support, the children will use this area to experience outdoor learning and bring them closer to nature.

Many thanks to Linacre Ward Elected Members who funded this project.

  • Playground News

Fri 25 Jan 2019 Mrs Jenkins

At last work will be starting in the middle of February on the cleared, previously overgrown area in the playground. We are having part of this area as a growing area with planters. The other side will have an activity base, a stage and some seating.

The work will take up to 4 weeks to complete. During this time we will have to close the Lime Grove entrance/exits to the school and everyone should use the main gate by the  car park entrance/exit.

We apologise for any inconvenience, but hope you will agree that the end result will be worth it!

  • ADHD Friendly Schools Award for OLSS!

    Thu 18 Jan 2018

Our Lady Sar of the Sea has become the first mainstream setting in the country to achieve an ADHD Friendly School quality mark.

The following was included in the local media:-

'Our Lady star of the Sea Catholic primary School in Seaforth is dedicated to meeting the needs of children with neurodevelopmental disorders, and has spent the last two years training staff and working closely with the ADHD foundation.

Based on feedback from families, the school also introduced a parent's skills group so that a number of tools and best practice methods to positively support learners could be replicated at home.

Cllr John Hoseph Kelly, Cabinet Member for Children's, Schools and Safeguarding said: "This is a fantastic achievement for the school to be recognised as the first mainstream school in the UK to receive this award. All pupils deserve the chance to achieve their potential regardless of the barriers they have to learning and I hope it inspires other schools to go the extra mile to make every pupil's experience of school the best it can be."

Headteacher of Our Lady Star of the Sea, Mrs Jenkins, said "I am extremely proud to receive this award on behalf of all the staff at the school who have been recognised for their hard work with children who face additional challenges in the school environment.  We've worked hard to make the school fully inclusive, but it has only been possible thanks to the joint efforts of the staff and parents and teachers all supported by the ADHD Foundation.  A special mention should also go to our Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator, Mrs Lawler, for being a huge driving force in making changes to our everyday practices."
